Why Genealogy?
I am the sum of those who have come before me. My life is what it is today because of how history has unfolded itself over the millennia. More than that, the very DNA in my body is there because my ancestors passed it down to my parents who passed it down to me. The very genes in my body have crossed the great plains in ox carts, they traveled on ships across the Atlantic.
I’m so blessed because of my ancestors. Some of them faced great hardship or persecution. Some lived in times of war or famine. That their line of descendants continued on to produce me does not cease to amaze me.
I love history and to place my ancestors, who carried what would become my DNA, during historical events and time periods makes it that much more real for me. How did historical events impact their lives? How did they live and survive day to day? What did they do for fun? What was life like for them? By uncovering who these people are and what their life was like, I hope to learn a little more about myself. And, I want to memorialize my ancestors who time has all but forgotten.
